Steve Cherundolo names first U.S. U-23 roster on road to 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games

# Steve Cherundolo Names First U.S. U-23 Roster on Road to 2028 Olympics

The U.S. men’s under-23 national team has taken its first step toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with head coach Steve Cherundolo naming a 23-player roster for upcoming matches against Scotland and Ukraine.

The squad blends emerging talent with international experience. Six players have received senior U.S. men’s national team call-ups, and four earned caps during the September and October international window. Eight players are based with clubs in Europe.

## Experienced U.S. U-23 Squad Begins Olympic Preparation

Parma midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi is among the most experienced names in the group. He represented the United States at the 2024 Olympics and remains eligible for the 2028 tournament.

Cherundolo said the camp will help the team establish its identity and build a foundation for the Olympic cycle. The matches against Scotland and Ukraine will also give the coaching staff an early opportunity to assess the group against international opposition.

The U-23 players will begin camp alongside the senior national team at the Arthur M. Blank National Training Center. The shared setting creates opportunities for coaches Cherundolo and Mauricio Pochettino to observe both squads, while supporting coordination between the youth and senior programs.

## Roster Offers Competition Across Every Position

The roster includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and six forwards. With competition for places expected to intensify as the 2028 Olympics approach, the first camp is an early chance for players to make an impression.

The Olympic tournament permits three overage players on each 23-man roster, adding another layer to the selection process. For now, Cherundolo’s focus is on evaluating the available U.S. U-23 talent and building a cohesive team.
