Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo has opened up about the role he can play in the team this season.
A January signing from PSV Eindhoven, Gakpo took a few weeks to settle but eventually found his feet with Jurgen Klopp‘s team.
The 24-year-old is now working hard in preseason, as he hopes to cement a regular starting spot with the Reds.
“I can drop a little bit into midfield, stay a little bit deeper, look at the situation, turn with the ball and start an attack,” he told reporters about his role in the team.
“I don’t have to wait for the attack to come to me. In that position, I can start the attack. I’m a player who likes to be involved in the attack – I’m not just about wanting the goals and assists.”
“Darwin always worked really hard, when I came here he was working hard and doing his best,” he added on Darwin Nunez.
“In football sometimes it doesn’t work the way everybody wants, it’s not that he was doing anything particularly badly.
“Now he’s back this season and doing really great again. Last season in my eyes he did a good job – everybody could do better last season, it was a difficult season for us all – and hopefully this season he and we are going to do better.”
