## Lisandro Martínez criticizes Manchester United after Atlético defeat
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has called for greater ambition at the club following the team’s 2-0 Champions League loss to Atlético Madrid. The defeat came after Atlético scored in the opening minute through Alex Baena, with Ademola Lookman adding a second in the 79th minute.
Martínez said United were not playing well as a team and pointed to a lack of connection on the pitch. He also criticized the team’s passing, body language and missed chances, saying those issues are costly against strong Champions League opponents.
The defender accepted that players and coaches share responsibility for the result, but also challenged the club’s leadership. He said he expects Manchester United to focus more clearly on winning the Premier League and Champions League, and argued that greater honesty is needed if the club is to change.
The loss leaves United with three wins in nine matches across all competitions this season and adds to questions about manager Michael Carrick’s position.
